Angantyr Denmark
Initially started as a synth/ambient project by sole member Ynleborgaz in 1997, Angantyr quickly changed its style to raw,
classic Scandinavian Black Metal in 1998 and has remained true to its roots ever since.
With each new release, Ynleborgaz was able to strengthen the position of Angantyr as one of Denmark’s leading Black Metal acts, with numerous dedicated followers around the world.

The cover painting (Udslidt by H A Brendekilde, if anyone is interested) and the music is in perfect alignment. So much sorrow, so much despair... Right from the start I can feel my soul wither away with each riff. Still, towards the end of the record I can catch little glimpses of hope in the melodies. A beautiful journey in the bleak reality of existence.

Another one of those bands whose music is impossible to fit under a simple label or tag, as it's a masterful blend of so many styles with lots of emotions. A bit like "An Abstract Illusion", one of those unique blends, folk, depressive, second wave, and atmospheric black metal styles into an exploratory whole, "the sum greater than its elements combined" kind of art... but it's the end result that counts, and I really liked it. Took a few listens and open-mindedness though.
